That Friend Isn’t Your Friend. That Relative Isn’t Your Family.
Self Love is the highest form of love.
By: The Feminine Nest
One of the hardest lessons I’ve had to learn as a woman is that titles do not determine loyalty.
Not “family.” Not “friend.” Not history. Not blood. Not even love.
I’ve always been someone who could make friends easily. I’ve always been able to walk into different spaces, connect with people, build relationships, and create community. At the same time, I’ve always been deeply introverted. Not because I think I’m better than anyone, or because I don’t enjoy people, but because life has a way of shaping you into someone who learns to protect their peace.
I’ve spent most of my life observing people.
I didn’t grow up with wealth. I didn’t grow up with a traditional family structure. I lost my mother at a young age, and for much of my life, I found myself moving through different environments, different households, and different versions of myself. And because of that, I learned something very early: people will often decide who you are before you’ve even had the chance to become yourself.
They create a version of you in their minds.
They decide what you’re worth.
They decide how far you’ll go.
They decide what role you’ll play in their story.
And once they’ve placed you in that box, they become uncomfortable when you outgrow it.
In many families, especially within cultures where comparison, obligation, and hierarchy can sometimes run deep, there is an unspoken expectation that you remain who everyone remembers you as. If you’re the quiet one, stay quiet. If you’re the struggling one, stay struggling. If you’re the black sheep, remain the black sheep.
But what happens when God has something different planned for you?
What happens when the woman you’re becoming no longer fits inside the version of you that others created?
For me, confidence was never something someone handed me. It was something I built. Even during moments when I was criticized, overlooked, misunderstood, or made to feel less than, there was always a small voice inside of me that said, “No. There is more for you.”
That voice was not arrogance.
It was faith.
And over time, I’ve learned that one of the greatest acts of self-love is trusting your discernment. Trusting that uncomfortable feeling. Trusting the way someone consistently makes you feel. Trusting your intuition when it tells you that something isn’t right, even when the person’s title suggests otherwise.
Because sometimes, that relative is not your family.
And sometimes, that friend is not your friend.
I think many women struggle with this because we are taught to prioritize loyalty over truth. We convince ourselves that because we’ve known someone for years, because we’re related by blood, because we shared childhood memories, because they say they love us, we owe them access to our lives forever.
But love without respect isn’t love.
Love without support isn’t love.
Love that only exists when you’re small enough, struggling enough, or convenient enough isn’t love either.
I’ve learned that family is not always about blood. Family is about safety. Family is about support. Family is about people who want to see you win, even when your success doesn’t benefit them personally.
And friendship?
Friendship is not competition.
Friendship is not comparison.
Friendship is not secretly hoping someone remains beneath you so that you can feel comfortable.
A true friend celebrates your joy when their own life isn’t perfect. A true friend supports your purpose even when they don’t fully understand it. A true friend doesn’t diminish your accomplishments, disappear when you’re thriving, or only show up when you’re struggling.
I’ve also learned that some people love you publicly and resent you privately.
Some people treat you like family when no one is watching and like a stranger when others are around.
Some people only enjoy your company when you’re hurting because your pain makes them feel safe.
And while none of us are perfect, it is our responsibility to protect our own energy.
That means accepting people for who they are, not for who we hope they become.
When someone consistently shows you jealousy, believe them.
When someone consistently shows you selfishness, believe them.
When someone consistently shows you that they are unable to celebrate your growth, believe them.
Not because you hate them.
Not because you’re bitter.
But because peace requires honesty.
One of the greatest gifts God has ever given me was isolation.
At the time, I thought it was punishment.
I thought I was being abandoned.
I thought I was losing people.
But now I understand that God was removing distractions. He was separating me from environments, relationships, and expectations that could not go where He was taking me.
Sometimes isolation isn’t rejection.
Sometimes it’s protection.
Sometimes God removes you because the version of yourself you’re becoming requires different surroundings, different people, and different levels of faith.
And yes, that process can be painful.
It can feel lonely.
It can feel unfair.
But purpose has always required courage.
If you’re the first person in your family to dream differently, think differently, heal differently, build differently, or believe differently, understand that you will probably receive pushback. You will probably be misunderstood. You will probably be unsupported at times.
Not because you’re doing something wrong.
But because you’re doing something unfamiliar.
And unfamiliar things often make people uncomfortable.
So if you’re reading this and you’ve been struggling to let go of someone because of their title, let this be your reminder:
You do not owe access to people who continuously harm your peace.
You do not owe loyalty to people who only value you when you’re small.
You do not owe your future to people who are committed to your past.
Trust what God is showing you.
Trust your discernment.
Trust yourself.
Because sometimes, that friend isn’t your friend.
And sometimes, that relative isn’t your family.
And that’s okay.
Because what’s meant for you will never require you to betray yourself to keep it.
Take Your Time, But Be Intentional
By: The Feminine Nest
There’s something I wish more women said out loud:
Peace of mind doesn’t come from vibes alone. It comes from stability.
And I don’t mean that in a harsh or “go work yourself to death” kind of way. I mean it in a freeing way.
Because the truth is, life feels softer when you’re secure.
I remember when I was 19, an older woman told me something that stayed with me. She wasn’t trying to be my mom, she wasn’t judging me… she just gave me real advice. The kind that sticks because it’s honest.
She basically said:
“Make sure you have something solid to stand on, no matter what.”
At the time, I didn’t fully get it. Now I do.
We live in a time where social media can make it look like you can skip steps. Like you can build a life off aesthetics, brand deals, or a business that isn’t fully stable yet.
And yes, those things can work. But they’re not always secure.
And as women, especially if we want peace, softness, and options… we need security.
That can look like:
- Going back to school
- Getting a certification
- Learning a real skill (finance, tech, marketing, logistics)
- Having something that pays you consistently, even when life shifts
Because life will shift. And when it does, you don’t want to be in survival mode; you want to be in control.
There’s also a conversation we don’t have enough:
There’s a difference between being around money… and being rooted in it.
Some women are born into wealth. Not married into it, not dating it, but born into it. That comes with a completely different level of security, access, and safety net.
If that’s not your story, then your strategy has to be different.
And there’s no shame in that. In fact, there’s power in knowing:
“I’m going to build a life where I’m secure no matter what.”
Not just for you, but for your future children too.
Because one day, it won’t just be about what feels good in the moment. It’ll be about:
- What protects your peace
- What creates options
- What builds a foundation your kids can stand on
And let’s be honest about something else. We’re watching a lot of people jump into content, start businesses, rebrand themselves overnight… and it can make you feel like you’re behind if you’re not moving at that same pace.
But you’re not behind. You’re just allowed to take your time and do it the right way for you.
Everything that looks fast online isn’t always stable in real life. And that matters.
Because what’s the point of building something that looks good… but can’t hold you when life gets real?
It’s okay if your journey looks like:
- Going to school while everyone else is outside
- Working a job while you quietly build your vision
- Saying no to things that don’t align, even if they look fun in the moment
That’s not you missing out. That’s you being disciplined. And discipline is a form of self-respect.
A lot of women are draining their energy trying to keep up, going out, traveling, taking pictures, being seen… just to feel like they belong in a certain lifestyle. But belonging should never cost you your foundation.
The world will still be here. The trips, the parties, the aesthetics… all of that will still exist when you’re actually in a position to enjoy it without stress, without pressure, without pretending.
That’s the real soft life. Not just looking like you’re at peace, but actually being at peace.
And a big part of that peace comes from knowing when to say no.
No to:
- Spaces that don’t pour back into you
- People who distract you from your goals
- Opportunities that look good but don’t align
And also knowing when it’s time to pivot.
From jobs that no longer serve you.
From environments that keep you stuck.
From versions of yourself that you’ve outgrown.
Because staying stagnant is where frustration builds.
Growth requires movement, even if it’s quiet, even if nobody sees it yet.
You don’t have to rush. But you do have to be intentional.
This isn’t about fear. It’s about freedom.
The kind of freedom where you can choose love, choose rest, choose softness…
because you’re not depending on anything unstable to survive.
You deserve a life that feels good and makes sense.
And sometimes the real glow up isn’t what people see online…
It’s what quietly secures your entire future.
Finding Yourself Before Anything Else
Finding Yourself Before Anything Else
By: The Feminine Nest
There is a version of you that feels like home.
Soft. Certain. At peace with who she is and where she’s going.
She isn’t rushing.
She isn’t chasing.
She isn’t questioning her worth.
And the truth is… before you find anything in this world, you have to find her.
Before the relationship.
Before the career.
Before the friendships.
Before the life you’ve been dreaming about.
Because when you don’t know who you are, you end up building a life that doesn’t feel like it belongs to you.
You may find yourself in spaces that look beautiful on the outside… but feel empty on the inside.
You may accept love that confuses you instead of nurtures you. You may say yes to opportunities that don’t align with your spirit.
Not because you don’t deserve better… but because you haven’t fully come home to yourself yet.
Finding yourself is not about becoming someone new.
It’s about returning to the woman you’ve always been.
The one who dreams deeply. The one who desires more.
The one who sees a life for herself that others may not understand.
Those dreams you carry so quietly… they are not random.
They are a reflection of your future self calling you forward.
The way you imagine your life,
the love you crave,
the lifestyle you envision,
the peace you long for,
that is all you.
But to live that life, you have to choose her.
You have to choose to become the version of yourself that matches your vision.
And that requires intention.
It requires solitude at times.
It requires releasing what no longer aligns.
It requires trusting your path, even when it feels uncertain.
Because building your life without knowing yourself…
will always feel unstable.
But when you find yourself first, everything changes.
You move differently.
You choose differently.
You attract differently.
You no longer seek validation; you embody it.
You no longer chase, you align.
You no longer settle, you know.
So take your time.
Pour into yourself.
Get to know yourself deeply.
Honor what you feel and what you desire.
Create a life that feels like a soft place to land.
A life that feels like home.
Because that is what The Feminine Nest truly is.

But something you first build within.
